[Opinions] If a boy named Evan told me to call him ay-van, I'd punch him.

Unless I was in a spanish speaking country or something.
Same with Elise. Come on, it's aleese. Evan's fine too. They're both fine names, just the pronunciation is ridiculous and pretentious.
Christelle pronounced Chreestelleh. Emma ay-mah. Amanda uh-mahn-dah. Caitlin kate-leen. Give me a break.

Sorry I did not mean to sound pretentious or ridiculous. I just could not translate the french "E" into english but I guess the closest sound is like the E in Ennemy. Not sure about Evan as it's a welsh name, but Elise, as Aleeez yes, As it's a french name I should know. Christelle is pronunced like Chrees -telle (Michelle, Chanelle, chantelle). I live in Uk so I try to find (for later) names that are prunonced nearly the same ways in both countries. Tough !

Oh!
I'm very ignorant and silly, sorry. I should have at least asked or bothered to find out if you were French.
I'll try again in light of new information: if you pronounced Elise aleeez and Evan frenchly, but didn't insist that everyone else did, it would be fine. (With me, I mean. Which is, you know, REALLY important. :P It wouldn't seem ridiculous or pretentious to me, anyway.) And I like both names a lot, actually.
My friend Judith Carolina "Carolina" is hoo-deet cah-ro-lee-na to her parents and Care-oh-line-a to everyone else, and it doesn't bother her. But if she went by Judith and insisted it be pronounced hoo-deet, I would roll my eyes at her a lot.
I hope this was slightly less rude. Sorry for being such a jerk :)

Don't worry everything is ok... At least we can commnicate so I do not think you are a Jerk now. It's so hard to write a sound ! If only we could hear the sounds on this website lol! You know the song a letter to Elise from the Cure? and the ad for Evan Almighty? Well If we hear the same way then I think we are ok on the pronunciation !Funny for the Hoo-deet, in french it's JU (like nude) dit'. LOL
