[Opinions] Emer
Is this a name I should not even think of using? My brother thinks it is masculine which it is not. My sister said that she thought it should be pronounced EM-er and not EE-mur (actually I think she thought it was some strange spelling of Emma!).What are your views? Also, do you think it needs a really girly middle name to make it seem more feminine? Thanks

I don't see why you shouldn't use it. I know plenty of girls named this, and it's never really considered as a variant of Emma, nor is it ever pronounced EM-ur. I think it's a beautiful name, feminine and just a bit mysterious. The name itself is just loaded with Celtic mythology.

I've always thought Ee-mer was the proper pronunciation, and your family would get it after a while.I would use a more feminine sounding middle name.I know a girl named Emer and I think it's lovely.

I think it's a pretty name. It doesn't look particularly feminine but I think it sounds feminine. The history/mythology behind the name is definitley not masculine. Plus I wouldn't value my own brother's opinion in the matter, I don't know about you... :) I like the spelling Eimear too; I think it helps with the pronunciation. I think a girly middle name would be good though.Emer Charlotte

I love Emer and think it is lovely and feminine, but I'm afraid it will be confused with ever popular Emma, so I would probably put it as a mn.
