[Opinions] WDYT of Keturah?
Keturah has been growing on me lately. It's pronounced ke-TYOO-ra ('oo' as in 'boot'). Do you think it's too obscure a Biblical name to be used by someone who's not religious?Thoughts? Impressions?

I love love love Keturah, but I like the keh-TOOR-ah pronunciation.
I know a girl whose name is Jillian Keturah and I loved it so much I used it for one of my characters. She goes by Ketta for short. Most non-namers don't know Keturah is Biblical. I'd not think it was "too Biblical" for anyone.-Seda*

I never liked KeturahAlright, so at most there are two verses on her, but she just seemed like a replacemnt for Sarah so I never liked her. I don't like the sound of the name either.

I like it. It's uncommon, but not too "out there." And, since it is so obscure, I don't think it matters that it's religious.

It's OK. I like the way you pronounce it best. It's quite pretty that way. The spelling sounds very manly and ugly, though.EDIT to add: It's not too biblical to use if you arn't. I really don't look at the orgions of names; if I like it, I like it. If I want to name my child that, I will.

I prefer the pronunciation ke-TOOR-a. The "yoo" sound makes it a bit harder to enunciate. I think it's a really nice name :-)_____________________________________________________________________"I marmaladed a slice of toast with something of a flourish, and I don't suppose I have ever come much closer to saying 'Tra-la-la as I did the lathering, for I was feeling in mid-season form this morning."El

I really like it. I used to know a girl called Keturah who was part of a large family (six children, I believe) who home-schooled their children for religious reasons. She went by Ketty most of the time, which I think is a sweet nickname. I'd be surprised if a Keturah wasn't the child of a religious family, but I'm not sure now many people would realise that it was a Biblical name.

In fact it is keh-too-rah :)
I like both the sound and the meaning but wouldn't use it because I dislike the Biblical person (it is Hagar's second name).

It's pronounced a little differently in English-speaking countries, I think. The only Keturah I've known (a very cute girl at my sister's old ballet school, who went by the nn Ket) used the 'tyoo' pronunciation.:-)

Oh, ok! It's true that I use the "Jewish way" of prononcing it (like when I learn the Bible, and so on). :)

Lol, it doesn't surprise me that it's different for you. It's the Uriel (oo-ree-el vs yoo-ree-el) thing again!:-)

I went to school with a girl named Keturah, so I always think of her when I hear or see the name. She pronounced it ki-TOOR-a though. I found out senior year that her middle name was Bathsheba :-/I don't automatically associate it as a religious or biblical name, and I don't think that most people will either, so you could probably get by with using it.
