I thought of cyclone before alkaline, even though the name sounds nothing like "cyclone". I don't mind the sound of it but I don't care for the look of it, if that makes sense. :-/

Regardless of the pronunciation all I think of is halcion.

At the moment it's tied with Delphine for my #2 girls name. I love the sound, love the story behind it and I love that it's the name of a star. I'd nn her Alcie, I really like that too.

It fluctuates between #1 and #2 on my personal list. I personally don't see a resemblance to 'alkaline' (maybe if you were spelling it Alkyone) or that it's any harder to say than, say, Hermione.

Alcyone is pretty! I've never really paid much attention to it before, but now that you bring it out into the light, I like it well enough. I didn't make the alkaline association that you made. The only real problem I could see with it is that there may be a pronunciation issue, but I never consider those to be a deal-killer. I think they are fairly easily managed.

The name seems unusuable for me because it's a sedative (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halcion) and an Orbital song, which wouldn't be bad at all if the song weren't written about the sedative.

I'm not sure what would have a similar feel for you, but I would mostly pick things from the Greek Mythology list. Example: Chryseis, Circe, Eurydice, Eudoxia, Euterpe, Ismene, Ligeia, Nephele, Tisiphone

I'm never sure how to say it, which makes me feel awkward looking at it. ^^;;; If I had never seen if before, I'd guess al-SEE-uh-nee, but I used to watch a TV show in which it was pronounced al-see-OH-nay. And BtN says it's with the second syllable as in "cypress", which I just don't find attractive. :-/
