[Opinions] Alcyone
This name has been growing on me for quite some time. I'm still not sold on it, but it's definitely in my good graces. The only downside is that it looks like alkaline. :(
What do you think of Alcyone? Can you recommend any other female names that have a similar feel?
Thanks!

I thought of cyclone before alkaline, even though the name sounds nothing like "cyclone". I don't mind the sound of it but I don't care for the look of it, if that makes sense. :-/
Regardless of the pronunciation all I think of is halcion.
I love love love Alcyone
At the moment it's tied with Delphine for my #2 girls name. I love the sound, love the story behind it and I love that it's the name of a star. I'd nn her Alcie, I really like that too.
Female names with a similar feel, I guess it's probably just cuz I'm used to saying the names together, but I think alot of my favourites go with it:
Xanthe
Delphine
Adelaide
Calanthe
others:
Hermione
Persephone
Ceridwen
Lucasta
Ianthe
lovely name :)

I love it [m]
I have it down as a middle name for Sky (f).

I'm very fond of it
It fluctuates between #1 and #2 on my personal list. I personally don't see a resemblance to 'alkaline' (maybe if you were spelling it Alkyone) or that it's any harder to say than, say, Hermione.
Others? Strongest association for me is the Greek angle, so:
Xanthe
Chrysanthe
Calanthe
Kalyke
Harpalyke
Io
Alecto
Capella
Callirrhoe / Kallirrhoe
Lysandra
Lysithea
Thetis
Ismene
Euterpe
Terpsichore
Persephone
Any you like?

I like Alcyone, but I prefer Alkyone because it is closer to the Greek form.

Alcyone is pretty! I've never really paid much attention to it before, but now that you bring it out into the light, I like it well enough. I didn't make the alkaline association that you made. The only real problem I could see with it is that there may be a pronunciation issue, but I never consider those to be a deal-killer. I think they are fairly easily managed.
The name seems unusuable for me because it's a sedative (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halcion) and an Orbital song, which wouldn't be bad at all if the song weren't written about the sedative.
I'm not sure what would have a similar feel for you, but I would mostly pick things from the Greek Mythology list. Example: Chryseis, Circe, Eurydice, Eudoxia, Euterpe, Ismene, Ligeia, Nephele, Tisiphone

I'm never sure how to say it, which makes me feel awkward looking at it. ^^;;; If I had never seen if before, I'd guess al-SEE-uh-nee, but I used to watch a TV show in which it was pronounced al-see-OH-nay. And BtN says it's with the second syllable as in "cypress", which I just don't find attractive. :-/
I'll think on similar names for it, though.
