[Opinions] Changing the Pronounciation of a Name
Anrai: It's a Gaelic name I've been told should be pronounced on-REE... I'd like to pronounce it ahn-RIE... ahn as in barn and RIE as in rye bread... I know it's not the correct pronunciation, but since I doubt many Americans know how to pronounce this name, will anyone notice? Is it wrong to alter the pronounciation of a name to tailor it to your individual tastes?
And what do you think? Is ahn-RIE better than on-REE?

If you're going to change the pronounciation of a name ( and yes, it is pr. On-ree), then change the spelling too. That way you don't confuse eveyone and butcher a perfectly good name.
Agreed
It annoys me when people butcher a pronunciation to suit their own tastes. I am Irish and I just see it as wrong and a bit of a slap in the face when people try and change the pronunciation (I have noticed it being done to Aislinn/Aisling a lot...people seem to have decided AYS-lin sounds nicer :/)
Anyway, I think if you change the pronunciation, change the spelling because frankly you would have already lost the legitimacy of the name.

I understand how it might be irritating, but it is nothing "against" the culture. I happen to be Irish and am very proud of my heritage which is why I use so many Irish names for my list. I saw the name and at first glance misinterpreted the pronounciation.
Hey, haven't seen you in a while! Glad to see you back. :)
I prefer on-REE but different cultures and countries always pronounce all kinds of names differently. Go for what you love!!!!!
If the accepted and "proper" prn. of the name is on-REE (which sounds like Henri to me), then it would be a bit weird to change it. However, it's not a very well-known name, and possibly one of the alternate pronunciations IS ahn-RIE, which I prefer as well, and makes more sense with the -ai ending. Maybe you should do a little more research and you'll be pleasantly surprised. :b
I prefer Anrai pronounced the way you prefer to pronounce it. I think that many people would probably disagree with me though. In this instance though, I believe I have heard it pronounced both ways so it doesn't matter as much to me...because I was told that both ways are legit.
