That a decent rule of thumb would be to scroll down the whole page. If you can still see it, even just as the title ones without the replies showing at the very bottom, don't repost. The boards do not exist in the bubble during which one visits them, so show consideration for the people who are posting by actually reading what they've been posting in your absence rather than worrying only about what you wanted to see. There is no concrete X to recommend, but due to the way they push other threads off, it is only fair to at least try to pay attention and not repeat too frequently.

And no, the post like Chrisell's is discouraging her from posting the way she shouldn't, not the way she is meant to. If she were meant to post like that, it wouldn't really have been noteworthy, right?
