I like Axel, but do to the Axl Rose association, I would only use it as a middle name.
I do not, however, like Ryan Axel. I dislike Ryan with a passion that most would not understand. I find it to be lacking and common. You do, I think, have the right idea with Axel as a middle name. ;)
