[Opinions] Yes and no...

As for popularity, it really depends on the name for me. Aidan, for example, is now totally out of the question, but I still want to call a son Luke. (Not from Lucas, but from my grandma's maiden name of Lucot.) Luke/Lucas/Luca are reasonably popular, but it's nowhere near the Aidan/Braden/Caden/Jaden or Emma/Emily/Emmaleigh trends.
Minerva for me is a big no. Years ago, a friend had a cat named Annoya, because that's exactly what she did. This cat would NOT leave you alone. Ever. One of those "nudge her away and she comes back for more" cats. Well, after surviving more than her share of bad luck (these were ranch cats near a busy freeway), Annoya had two kittens - Buggsy (as in "bugs me") and Minerva (as in "gets on m'nerves"). So, Minerva to me brings up memories of a whole family of annoying cats... If you're looking for Mina, what about Wilhelmina or something similar?
