[Opinions] Some questions about naming style and a nickname...
Does it matter to you, personally, if a name that you love is either popular or gaining in popularity? Would that prevent you from using it? For example, I'm loving the name Natalie, but it's top 20 at the moment and that makes me hesitant. Also, what are your opinions on Minerva? Do you think Mina would work as a nickname? Thanks.

Hmmm names being too popular is a big problem with me. I like Aidan or Aiden but everyone uses it. It makes me not want to use it as much as I would of if it wasn't popular. I would still use a popular name, but usually I actually start to get bored of names that become popular, so Aidan lately just doesn't sound as nice when I hear it, as it use to.I like Minerva, and Mina would work as a nn.---------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm glad someone likes Minerva. My bf told me I was nuts. :)

Yes and no...As for popularity, it really depends on the name for me. Aidan, for example, is now totally out of the question, but I still want to call a son Luke. (Not from Lucas, but from my grandma's maiden name of Lucot.) Luke/Lucas/Luca are reasonably popular, but it's nowhere near the Aidan/Braden/Caden/Jaden or Emma/Emily/Emmaleigh trends.Minerva for me is a big no. Years ago, a friend had a cat named Annoya, because that's exactly what she did. This cat would NOT leave you alone. Ever. One of those "nudge her away and she comes back for more" cats. Well, after surviving more than her share of bad luck (these were ranch cats near a busy freeway), Annoya had two kittens - Buggsy (as in "bugs me") and Minerva (as in "gets on m'nerves"). So, Minerva to me brings up memories of a whole family of annoying cats... If you're looking for Mina, what about Wilhelmina or something similar?-Neo

Popularity usually does turn me off, but if I really love the name can just ignore it. Minerva's nice, though I don't particularly care for it. I think Mina would work very well, and I absolutely love it.

It depends on the name. I ADORE the name Olivia, but according to SSA, it's #4! However, I don't know any Olivias, so I might consider using it. Emily, Emma, and Isabella, however, I think are too overused to use now. Natalie is a lovely name. I would use it. I prefer Natalia, though.I hate the name Minerva; it's extremely ugly to me. I really like Mina (MEE-nuh), though.

Popularity does not effect me in the least. I don't care if the name I like/love is number one on the lists. I love the name, and that's all that matters. I don't see the point in disregarding a "popular" name one loves, just to choose a less liked name because it's not as popular. That's just plain stupid and silly, and not worth it. Go for Natalie. It's a nice name, and while it's in the top 20, I don't see/hear it often. I know two Natalies, ages 20-years-old and 22-years-old.I find Minerva to be a very ugly name. I see no beauty in it at all. Sorry.

I personally dont like popular names, and it does keep me from using it as a first name. Mainly because I grew up as one of many with my name, and no matter what nn I used, there was another one as well. I hated it growing up.
