I love John, and dont find it plain at all. But you might try Jonas and Jonah.
As to Emmeline, I absolutely love this name. I prefer it pronounced Emma-line instead of Emma-leen or Emma-lyn, but Emmeline is great any way its pronounced. I love Emma, but not Emily, and I find that Emmeline strikes a perfect balance between the two.
