Clara Belle was my great-grandmother's name, but more importantly, "Clarabelle" was the clown character on the early 50's Howdy Doody show. Naming your kid that would be like calling it "Bozo" or Krusty".
Clarabelle honked his squeezebulb horn in reply to questions, but never said a word in all the years of the show until the last episode, when he whispered a "Goodbye, kids" at the end. A real heart-render, but you had to be there. Did I mention the first Clarabelle was Bob Keeshan, who went on to become Captain Kangaroo? But then, you never heard of HIM either...

You are right about Bob Keeshan being Clarabelle, but anyone who would lump Bozo and Krusty in the same sentence obviously doesn't know any real clowns.
Captain Kangaroo was a crossdresser???
