[Facts] Jesus
First and foremost, HI!
IM ALIVE!lol
Secondly, I have a question on the name Jesus, not the Hay-soos form, but the name of the Christ-child.In the original hebrew bibal Jesus' name was Yeshua?
what does Yeshua ben Yoseph mean?
is it like Yeshua son of Yoseph, which is what we call Joseph?
Oh... and since I am on the topic if anyone happens to know off the top of their head, was Mary told by God to name th Christ-child this, or did she just... do it?
While im on the biblical kick, we all know Joseph was originally from Bethlehem, but was Mary?If you guys don't want to get into Biblic discussions on this board or dont know the answer to the Bible questions, I am sure maybe if i read the thing i could figure it out, im more interested in the name stuff, because that i cant figure out on my own, lol.
Nice to see everyone again

Sorry, haven't emailed back yet. You must realize you're getting into the most complicated and confusing topic in Christianity/Catholicism/Judaism. (Which are NOT the same, but stem from the same events.)
We all have different beliefs, and you must decide which to use. Even just the time of the Rapture is debated hotly among Christians.According to MY personal beliefs, Lucifer(light-bearer) was the top angel, but wanted to be higher, to be God. He got one-third of the angels to fight God and the other angels, but of course, (well, duh!) God won, and kicked them all out of Heaven. They went and inhabited the earth, which was in the process of Creation. Lucifer was renamed Satan, also called 'the devil' which means adversary I believe. His angels became called demons.Where in the world did you come up with this 'seven archangels' bit??? Email me.
Love, Yahalome :)

Catholocism is a branch of Christianity.

I suppose you could see it that way, but according to my beliefs, Catholics are idol-worshippers. (Not intended as an insult.) The thing is, I've encountered waaay too many ppl who think Catholism is the _same_ as Christianity.
Y :)

And they probably think you're a heretic (not me, this is intended as the french 'on', something english sadly lacks, along with you sing.) but we've all got to rub along together, seeing as we're all stuck on the same planet.

Heretic, fundamentalist, bigot, Protestant Christian, Bible-quoting, etc...! LOL!! I enjoy finding the origins of such "insults".
Heretic: from heresy = anyone who holds beliefs other than official church doctrine. (Yeah.)
Fundamentalist = one who follows the foundation "truths" of his/her religion. (Well duh!)
Bigot: from Spanish _hombre de bigote_ = man with a moustache, therefore man of spirit. (Well, let's hope I've ot some spirit, though I'll pass the moustache!)
Protestant = one who protests. (Again, duh!)
Christian = one who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. (Yeah, so?)
Bible-quoting: why not? I believe it!And so on. I totally agree people should be tolerant of other religions. However, it's been taken to far both ways. People should be allowed to witness their religion in a pleasant, non-pushy manner, but not to call names, accuse, etc. If they see, i.e., homosexualism as wrong, they should be allowed to say so, but not in a derogatory or accusing manner. I could go on, but...Oh, well!

satan WAS a former angel. in the bible, it is said that he defied God and was banished from heaven. his former name was lucifer, which means 'the light bearer'. when lucifer left heaven, he took 1/3 of the angels with him.

Satan and Lucifer are nor necessarity the same animal. Lucifer -- Aiosforos in Greek -- means bearer of light (i.e. knowledge, etc), and in the Greco-Roman tradition Lucifer/Aiosforos is a very good Demon indeed :)

Another thing......in the Jewish bible (what is sometimes referred to as the Old Testament) ha-Satan is merely the prosecuting attorney, nothing more. Also, he could not be cast down due to rebellion (as is usually presented in the Christian bible) since he isn't "programmed" to do so (rebel.)Sorry for this religious lesson on ha-Satan, but I've just finished a rant here on campus on this very subject. :rolleyes:Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

ignore all other posts and just respond to this one plzOk, Id appreciate if everyone just ignored my other posts, and everything was focused on this one, I think I summerized the material better.
And yes, this is all for one of my novels, actually a set of two. I discussed it here before, Pavlos and Nan might remember. Christmas Diary.... Nan changed it to something like Damaris Christie, lol. Still can't decide between 'The Christmas Diaries', 'Christmas's Diaries', 'The Christmas Diary', or 'Chrismas's Diary'. Christmas is the name of the girl... yea that's not important! On and upward!!!- Jesus is a name or is it a contraction of Joshua ben Joseph?
- In the ORIGINAL HEBREW was Jesus named Jesus, Joshua, or Yeshua?
- In the ORIGINAL HEBREW was Joseph, Joseph, or Yoseph?
- In the ORIGINAL HEBREW was Mary, Mary, Maria, Mariam, or Miriam?
- Is Marion the closet male relative name of the ORIGINAL HEBREW name for Mary? If not, what is? If Marion is actually a medevil concotion of the name Mary, is there a way take the original Hewbrew name/word of/for Mary and make it into a boys name(Y'all get what I mean by that?)
- Is the ORIGINAL HEWBREW name/word for the ANGEL that later became Satan, or Associated with Satan Ha-Satan??? -confused- Also whatever the orignal Hewbrew name of the Angel that defied god, can I get a break down of the name so as to what it means, if it has a meaning, in Hewbrew... or whatever language it is from.
- Can I get the ORIGINAL HEBREW names of the 7 Archangels, and the word breakdown of their names. As I said before the site changed and now has something different then it had before, so I am confused.
7 Archangels (English names):
Gabriel
Michael
Uriel
Zerachiel
Raphael
Remiel
Raguel
- Can I get the ORIGINAL HEWBREW name of the following, and the word breakdowns on the names/word:
Azrael (Angel of Death)
Abaddon (Angel of the Abyss) Question here, what 'abyss'?
Apocrypha (so this a group fo 5 books?)
- Is there an old feminine Hewbrew form of Jospeh, and by old I mean back in the time of Christ? If the original Hewbrew form of Joseph in the bible was Yoseph, is there a way to feminize this that was something they would of done in that time?

- In the ORIGINAL HEBREW was Jesus named Jesus, Joshua, or Yeshua?answer: Yeshua (meaning: salvation, god is salvation)
- In the ORIGINAL HEBREW was Joseph, Joseph, or Yoseph?answer: Yoseph (meaning: he (god) added, continued)

far as I know he has no earlier Hebrew name.- Can I get the ORIGINAL HEBREW names of the 7 Archangels, and the word breakdown of their names. As I said before the site changed and now has something different then it had before, so I am confused.answer: as I said in my other post to you, the original Hebrew spelling is IN HEBREW. If you write Miyka'el or Mikha'el - it's neither of them. You can only phonetically represent them if you got the pronounciation.as for breaking them down to words:
El means god in all of them.Gabriel: gavri = men,people,getting strongerMichael: Mi=who, chah=like (Michael = who is like god?)Uriel: uri=my light (Uriel=god is my light)Zerachiel: zerach =to shine,to lightRaphael: Rephah=to heal
- Is there an old feminine Hewbrew form of Jospeh, and by old I mean back in the time of Christ?answer: I really think not.
there is only a more modern female form: Yoshepha.Hope this helps.

Plz readIn my previous post please replace Marion with Marian, every time it appears. Marian is the male form of Mary, not Marion. Sorry bout that!~SD
vote up1vote down
Marjan (Marian) is certainly the male form of Marianus, which unfortunately comes from the Latin name Marius - nothing to do with Mary, therefore. (It would originally have been given to slaves owned by the Marii.)I'm not sure exactly what you want - a Hebrew name meaning the same as Mary but used for boys? I haven't checked this, but it is my impression that Mary, or Miriam or whatever, was originally Egyptian and that its use in Hebrew dates from biblical reports of the Exodus. I very much doubt if people in classical and biblical antiquity would have used female names for males; have you found a source in which this did happen? That would be really interesting!

Hi!Before I start, let me tell you, it has been quite a while since the last time a looked and it is the catholic version of guesses.Issa Arabic form of Yeshua (see JESUS)This according to "Behind the Name".Joshua From the Hebrew name Yehoshua which meant "YAHWEH is salvation".So, Yeshua ben Yosef means Joshua son of Joseph.About the origin of the Virgin Mary:
The blessed and ever glorious Virgin Mary, sprung from the royal race and family of David, was born in the city of Nazareth, and educated at Jersulem, in the temple of the Lord. {2} Her father's name was Joachim, and her mother's Anna. The family of her father was of Galilee and the city of Nazareth. The family of her mother was of Bethlehem. (Check http://jacksonsnyder.com/arc/Lessons%202/The%20Virgin.htm)Now about the arch angles, from your list I know that Lucifer or Luzbel is know as Satan as well.
I would like to extend but most go to dinner now... :op
I sugest you search the web before you search in the bible. It will be much easier to understand www.google.com than to go back and forth through the holy books.Good luck!

arg... morePlease ignore the double post... not sure how that happenedok I need some help with the original names of the 7 archangels.
First Michael. Originally on this site it said the original name of the archangel Michael was Mikha'el, not is says Miyka'el, so im confused.Again with Gabriel. The site originall said the name was gavhri'el, now it says Gabriyel.I am wondering if the first is the words it is from, and the second is the hewbrew name. I would like to know both for those two and the following:Raguel
Remiel
Raphael
Uriel (question on this, what is Apocrypha? is that the Apocalypse?)
Zerachiel
Azreal
AbaddonI noticed all ended in 'el' is there a significance to that?
What exactly is the 'angel of abyss'?
And, before the evening 'star' Venus, or Lucifer got identified Satan, was Satan's angel name mentioned?All for now... thanks!

Hi ho Silver! re: the Apocrypha...The Apocrypha is not the Apocalypse...not so far as I know...The Apocrypha is a set of five books, like the books of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus etc etc) which were added to the Bible and then rejected at a later date as unsuitable (the exact order of events I don't know, so try googling it...). Tales of fighting dragons and whatnot, I seem to remember (can't think why they didn't want that in the Bible...).hth

Raphael = reh-fah-EL
Uriel = u-ri-EL
Michael = mi-chah-EL (ch as in loch and bach more or less)
etc.
Abaddon was ah-vah-DON (it means destruction)

uh....thanks I don't need pronunciations
I need to know the original Hebrew spellings of the names, and the worlds they came frombut thanks~SD
vote up1vote down
well..."The original Hebrew spelling" is in Hebrew letters, so I don't really understand what you mean.Neither Mikha'el nor Miyka'el is "Hebrew spelling".If you want the meaning of the words they come from:
Mi = who
cha = like
EL = GOD
so Michael means "who is like god".
Is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

yes, but moreFor all 7 arch angels, and the other peops i mentioned, i need the breakdowns of the names

Here's some stuff I learned from my "Almost all stuff Jewish" source1) The significance of the suffix "el" is it's one of the names of G!d2) Satan is Ha-satan, the "prosecuting attorney" angel, nothing more. He is not mentioned in the Torah portion of the Tanakh (what you guys call the "Old Testament") but he appears occasionally in the other portions.You might be able to glean some more info on one of the other websites I subscribe to (although it's mostly pagan, you can find out stuff from the resident expert on Judaism [aka bananabrain or bb]) on the Mothers Magic forums (http://www.mothersmagic.net/forums).Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

me again...Was Mary in the original hewbrew texts name Mary
or Maria
or Miriam
or what?oh, and b4 we all discussed that Marion was the male form of Mary.
If Mary's real name wasn't Mary, but... Miriam, is Marion still the closest male form of that name?
Is Marion a proper ancient hebrew name like Yeshua, or is it a newer name?Thanks!!!~Silver

Miriam is (as far as i know) the first form.
Marion is Mary. it's a surname, maybe that made it male. from middle ages.sorry about the lack of full sentences, words stuck in head.
