The verb for hope in French is 'esperer' (I think!) So it looks close, but I don't think so. I'd have to go with Nanaea on this one!
The word has the same root as "aspire": the Latin "spirare", meaning "to breathe". I breathe, therefore I hope.
I thought poires were pears, as in Belle Helene? If so, good fruit but bad name.
An S-pear? You remind me of an joke about an automobile called the S-Car. I forget the joke itself, but remember the punchline:
