They may have German ancestors, since Kynaston found the surname in low German.
That could be the answer. I couldn't find Kobber in my extended book of Danish first- and lastnames. The best book dealing with lastnames here. Well there are some which have Kobber as the first part, but they're always combined with something other. But no single handedly Kobber. *Gets nosy and heads off to the Danish statistic database for first- and lastnames, to check out the data on Kobber*
