[Facts] Russian Names In "Crime and Punishment"
What do the names Luzhin, Porfiry, Alexander Grigorevich, Zosimov, and Svidrigaylov mean?
Replies
Luzhin, Zosimov and Svidrigaylov are not names, but surnames.
Luzhin derived either from word meaning "puddle" or from word meaning "meadow".
Zosimov means "son of Zosim(a)"
PS: sorry for my bad English.

Thanks for all the help. What about the names Avdoyta, Dunya, and Dunechka? They are all the names for one person. I just can't seem to find what they mean.
Porfiri (see Porfirio), Aleksander, Grigory and Zosim (see Zosimos) are Russian personal names.
Grigorievich is a patronym: son of Gregory.
Zosimov is a family name derived from the personal name Zosim.
Luzhin is a family name derived probably from a place name. It might be translated as Grassman, approximately.
Svidrigaylov is also a family name probably derived from a place name. One might think that there was a town named Svidrigaylovo but I do not think somebody can imagine where that town might be located.
