Help[Opinions] Ann vs Anne
Anne (with an "e") is one of my favourite names. It's my mom's name, and to me it has the perfect blend of elegance and simplicity. However, I don't like Ann (no "e") at ALL. It's too plain, blunt, and just plain ugly to me.
Anyone have opinions? Why do you think an "e" makes so much difference in the name, when it's pronounced the same with or without?

I prefer Anne to Ann. Just looks more complete.

I much prefer Anne. I think it looks much better with names because of the e. It helps to make a name "flow" when written.

I'm going to stick up for my poor Ann
And say I prefer that spelling :)
Ann is the way it's been spelt in my family, Ann is my middle name and my mum's first name so if I were to use it I would spell it Ann.

I agree with you. I had a beloved cousin Anne who died in her twenties. When her sister had a daughter eight years ago she named her Anne and I thought it was such a wonderful choice for a child. It is classic, soft, lovely. But for some reason I do not like the appearance of Ann at all. The e at the end makes the name to me! I just adore the name Anne.

I like Ann better as a mn for some reason. No idea why. I like Anne better as a first name though, it looks more complete in front of something than Ann does. Ann doesn't bother me though; I don't think it's ugly...just too short.

I agree. Anne has much more appeal over Ann. Ann looks incomplete. But I will say it doesn't bother me as much as a middle name.

Well, I like Ann for a mn as that is my mom's. But if I were to use it as a first name I would spell it Anne, I just don't think it looks right without it. I probably wouldn't use it as a fn though unless Jason was willing to go along with the whole Anne Marie thing which I don't believe he is.

Well, I'm going to agree with you wholeheartedly on the Anne thing. I don't think anyone could have said it better than Anne of Green Gables (one of my favorite book characters):
"Spell out A-n-n and it just looks dreadful. But Anne with an 'E' is quite distinctive." [The quote may be slightly off, but you get the point].
Whether my opinion is forever tainted by Anne Shirley's or not is still up in the air, but when I see Ann it just looks, well, chopped off to me for some reason. Like an incomplete name. Anne has much more flair. Call me crazy.

I can; and A-n-n looks dreadful, but A-n-n-e looks so much more distinguished. If only you'll call me Anne spelled with an e I shall try to reconcile myself to not being called Cordelia."
Good thing, too. Anne is infinitely more refined than Cordelia.

Hmmm...
All I can think of is because I just see Anne more than Ann. So I'm more use to seeing it as Anne and so that makes me feel more comfortable with Anne.
Maybe having the e on the end makes it more feminine and soft looking because of the curved vowel of the e. Where Ann is more blunt looking like what would be wanted with male names.
