As a mom of an Aiden, I can tell you that I certainly am not illiterate or have a spelling disability. We chose this name 4 years ago before it was so popular. Both spellings are acceptable, but Aidan is the standard form. We chose to spell his name this way because it is spelled the way you would say the name ("A- Den"), not "A-Dan". Since it has become so popular, I am glad that we spell it the less common way. I do realize that it will be an issue with people spelling his name with an a instead of an e. I think he can cope.
