As a mom of an Aiden, I can tell you that I certainly am not illiterate or have a spelling disability. We chose this name 4 years ago before it was so popular. Both spellings are acceptable, but Aidan is the standard form. We chose to spell his name this way because it is spelled the way you would say the name ("A- Den"), not "A-Dan". Since it has become so popular, I am glad that we spell it the less common way. I do realize that it will be an issue with people spelling his name with an a instead of an e. I think he can cope. Hope this helps?

it's much more masculine looking, and it being correct makes it more dignified. The -den ending is trendy and clearly invented; it is not unattractive, just a little bit squicky and silly. - chazda

Aidan, please!Aiden just looks so kre8iv to me.Sometimes names can look more kre8iv to me with just one letter different than if it's spelled totally off-the-wall, and this is an example. Aiden's just one letter away from the proper, original spelling... and yet it's not Aidan. :-( It drives me up the wall when I see it.

I don't care for the name, as I think it isn't masculine, and it's rather trendy. Anyway, I choose Aidan.

I prefer Aidan but from the looks of the birth announcements, Aiden is more popular

Acutally, in 2003 Aidan was #39 in the U.S. and Aiden was #73. At least some of the people can spell. :b

I meant the local birth announcements here where I live. It looks like everyone is thinking, "Let's make our Aidan unique by spelling it Aiden!" Sigh. If only they read the birth announcements like I do. On second thought, those are probably the same people who think I'm absolutely pathetic for reading the birth announcements :)

LOLI just realized that maybe it looks "off" to me because it has the word "aide" in it, so AIDEN looks like the job an aide would do. :b

Aidan! This is one of my pet peeves. I know that both are used, but Aiden looks very kreatyv and ugly to me. It's not as well balanced as Aidan...I think it looks weaker, and just not nearly as classy.Aidan is great!~ Caitlín
