Meaning & History
Means "flower of the lily", from Italian fiore di giglio, loan-translation of French fleur de lys. It was used by the poets Boiardo and Ariosto in their 'Orlando' poems (1495 and 1532), where it belongs to the wife of Brandimarte. It was subsequently used for a character in Mozart's opera 'Così fan tutte' (1790).
