Meaning & History
Means "born of gold", derived from Latin aurum "gold" and -gena "born from, sprung from". This was originally a poetic epithet applied to the legendary hero Perseus (whose father, the god Jupiter, came upon his mother Danaë in the form of a shower of gold). Compare the Greek adjective χρυσόπατρος (chrysopatros) meaning "sprung of a golden father"; also compare Chrysogonos.
