The
usual name is the
name or names by which a person is known in everyday life. A person may have more than one usual name: one for work, one for friends, one for family, etc. The usual name can be contrasted with the
formal name.
For example, a man with the full formal name Michael Robert Smith might be known as Michael or Mr. Smith at work, but as Mike, Bob, or Smitty to his friends and family.
