After Queen Vera gave birth to prince Markus, another attempt was made to wipe out the royal family. This time, assassins were sent inside the royal palace during the celebratory ball to honor the new prince. One made it into Crown Prince Bastian's room, where Bastian was able to fend him off until the guards could finish him off. The two sent after Lys and Susanne found empty rooms, as the girls had snuck off to watch the ball from an unused balcony. Both assassins were found after the attack on Bastian and both died at the hands of the guards.
Another three assassins went after King Oliver, but never even made it into the ballroom. Two were killed at the hands of guards, and one injected himself with lethal poison to prevent being detained after capture.
King Oliver had to leave the festivities to attend to the serious matter of a second attempt upon the lives of the royal family (the first being the very successful assassination of his king, crown prince, father, and brothers). Queen Vera was left to oversee the remainder of the ball.
Many of the nobles, including some of the King's advisers, felt that since no assassins were sent after the infant Markus or Queen Vera, that Vera or some of her family were involved in the plot. However, those who knew Queen Vera knew that she would never allow Bastian, Lys or Susanne hurt, and that she loved King Oliver truly and deeply.
Inspection of the assassins found that they were from a nomadic tribe that lived in the desert. This tribe contained a secret order of killers, who would devote their lives to killing their target. Employing these assassins was difficult, as they requested three lives for every assassin hired - and that was only if the omens said that the time was right for shedding of blood. The assassin would have to have a sacrificial victim, and two willing to become members of the tribe and lose all ties to the outside (usually beautiful, breeding females who would be kept under lock and key).
With the pieces King Oliver already had, along with the knowledge that whoever hired these assassins (twice, because it can be assumed that only this tribe would have enough willing to give their life in such an attempt as this) would have to have a vast network of power and wealth, King Oliver was pretty sure that the subterfuge at work in his kingdom was from his King's brother-in-law... the Overlord of Angra Maitue.
With a firm idea of what was and had happened, King Oliver sent his spy master to gather the rest of the necessary pieces. At the same time, King Oliver had his chief guard start to bulk up and train special divisions. Finally, King Oliver spent much time putting an invisible network of informants, guards, and spies within his own city. These were to watch for any activity that could mean another attack of some sort.
Just as preparations were getting ready to come to a head, Queen Vera found out that she was pregnant again. Remembering how Queen Oriana died because of this subterfuge while pregnant, King Oliver hesitated to act any further.
It quickly became apparent that Queen Vera was carrying twins, as she grew so large that she was confined to bed at 20 weeks. The babies took so much of her energy and health, that Queen Vera grew wane and pale as the pregnancy progressed. King Oliver feared that he might lose another Queen, and became obsessed with being beside her every possible moment.
At 32 weeks, Queen Vera went into premature labor. Labor was long and hard. At 20 hours into labor, a healthy prince Silvester was born. After another 13 hours of labor, a frail, blue princess Edith was born. Mom and both babies were able to pull through, but Edith remained small and seemingly frail.
With a new prince and princess to watch over, and his wife finally regaining some of her strength, King Oliver once again set his sights on the Overlord of Anga Maitue. It's at this time that his spy master brings back word that the Overlord has been raiding border villages and taking everybody prisoner. There is speculation of a black magic going on...
King Oliver has prepared for war, and now it is time... lest his kingdom suffer any further at the hands of this tyrant!

I can't really consider it a story, but I feel like it is the bare bones of a story, and would love to hear what others thing... Thanks!
