Marisa - Spanish or Italian?
Hi, I'm looking for a deeper meaning and possibly the exact origin
of my name, Marisa. I've seen that women in Italy and Spain have the
exact same spelling, although some people prefer to spell it Marissa.
As for the meaning, "of the sea", what exactly of the sea? It's all a
bit unclear. I'd appreciate any insight on this. Thanks alot!!!

This site provides two possible etymologies for Marisa (check out link). Another possible relation would be to the Greek Maira (check out: http://www.behindthename.com/messages/10518.html).
So instead of "Spanish or Italian?" you might want to ask yourself "Hebrew, Latin or Greek?" :)
