In
Dante Gabriel Rossetti's poem 'The Blessed Damozel', he lists five female saints who serve
Mary in
Heaven:
Gertrude,
Cecily,
Magdalen,
Margaret and Rosalys.
Recognisable names,
Magdalen especially, except for Rosalys. I hope she isn't St
Rosalia, because that would mean that Rossetti tweaked her name to achieve a rhyme for "symphonies". Surely he was a better poet than that? But I can't trace any other saint with a sufficiently Rose-like name. And Rosalys seems to be or to be used as a surname, which just adds to the confusion.
Any ideas, information etc would be most welcome.
