Would like origin of the name Amea (circa 1789)
I would appreciate any information on the origin of the name
Amea.
It is the name of my GGG-Grandmother.
Amea was born in 1789, probably MA.
Her father's name was Robert Barkley AMES and her mother was
Elizabeth Mosher (or a variant).
I do not know their ancestral country of origin (and am hoping her name may help).
Her obituary says her parents were from MA.
She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at age 11.
She was the eldest child in the family (the name may have had some
significance).
Amea is the spelling of her name in her Family Bible records.
She was referred to as Amy or Amey in most records.
Her daughter and a granddaughter were also given the name Amea.
Thank you.
