My sister
My younger sister has an unusual name that can hardly be found anywhere. Her name is Hilah. For some reason, people who don't know her and see the name pronounce it Helah, for whatever reason. There is obviously no 'E' in this entire name. Any help would be great.
The story behind it is some Scandanavian women helped my great grandmother who was sick and had a small child. As a thank-you, they named their child Hilah and my parents named my sister that. I checked the Scandanavian portion with Hilah, Hyla, Hila, nothing. Help?

Could it be related to the name Hilja I wonder not sure how thats pronounced though

That's very unlikely unless they have a Finnish background, since Hilja is from a Finnish word and Finnish is unrelated to almost all of the other European languages. My best guess is that it's a variation of Helah

I agree your idea is more likely than mine

Hilah isn't Scandinavian. It looks more like a Hebrew name to me. In Scandinavia, we have Hilda, Hilde, Hilma and Helle. It could possibly be a variant of Hilda.
