Denmark's youngest princess: Athena Marguerite Françoise Marie
The princess is the fourth child of prince Joachim (full name Joachim Holger Waldemar Christian), the second for his wife princess Marie (full name Marie Agathe Odile). She was born in January, but it is royal Danish tradition not to reveal the name until the christening, which was today. The little princess has three older brothers, and the full sibset is:Nikolai William Alexander Frederik
Felix Henrik Valdemar Christian
Henrik Carl Joachim Alain
Athena Marguerite Françoise MarieNikolai and Felix are Joachim's children with his ex-wife Alexandra.

New trend? [m]Between Princess Estelle and Princess Athena, I'm starting to think the royals just might be eschewing the traditional names (at least in the first name slot) in favor of names they actually like. I suppose CP Willem-Alexander and CP Maxima started it with Princess Ariane. At the rate it's going, Wills and Kate will be naming their kids Freya and Alfie!

I know it is kind of old-fashioned, and certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but it makes me happy to see Françoise. Marguerite, as well. Athena ...I could take it or leave it.

I find it surprising that the name in the sibset it least suits is Henrik, born of the same parents. But she's like the ninth to the throne, ah well.

I'm not too fond of Athena, but I love the rest of the name, especialy Marguerite, and I think it flows really well.

As people have said already:Athena is a beautiful name indeed, it's on my list aswell.
But on a danish princess? Nah.

I disagreePrince Joachin's Aunt Anne Marie (the Queen's sister) is married to King Constantine of Greece, so it makes sense to me that a Greek name was used. Also, several people have mentioned that they hope the princes and princesses would use different names, not just the traditional lists. It's not one I expected, but it does have a certain air about it.

They stole Athena!Athena has been on my list to use. I hope it doesn't skyrocket in terms of popularity. :(

A little bump for Athena might be nice, though. I'd like to use as a middle name in the next ten years possibly and it'd be nice if my parents didn't look at me like I was nuts. Not a skyrocket, just enough that people realize it can still be used.

I know 3 or 4!There are quite a few little Athena's running round.I knew about 3 when I was in primary school and they were mainly all greek. I know 3 or 4 little Athenas and none of them are Greek!

Another surprise from Joachim! I love it - royal, but still fresh.

Wow... That was unexpected. I like Athena but I don't think it goes well with her brothers' names.

During my daughter's first pregnancy, she and her partner had decided on Athena for a girl. It was definite, as I recall. Neither that pregnancy nor the next resulted in a girl, and in the time since she's kicked around several other girl names and the last one I heard was Vivien.I was never too enthused about Athena. I don't think it's terrible, but I just can't get enthused about it, either. I'm glad that I'm now unlikely to have a granddaughter named Athena.

Wow.
I did not expect Athena. I like it, but yeah, I wouldn't use it for a danish princess.
