It just occured to me that I might be pronouncing Eira (Welsh, meaning snow) wrong. Do you say it like ay-ra or eye-ra?

EYE-ra is my first inclination, but I really like AY-ra. Either pronunciation is lovely.

I say eye-ra. But I'm not welsh, I've never heard the name outloud soooo I may have just kind of made that up. I like eye-ra better than ay-ra.

I say eye-ra because I like the sound better. It depends on which part of Wales you're from, like Pie said.

I say ay-ra, but it depends which part of Wales you're from; southerners would probably say eye-ra. I just noticed it's a Swedish name too - how is it pronounced in Sweden?

The Scandinavian Eira is pronounced ay-ra so I just assumed that the Welsh Eira would be pronounced the same. I prefer that to eye-ra so I'm glad you can say it both ways.

I've always been saying it more like eye-ra than ay-ra. But that might just be me... (something like Ejra for you Swedish speakers...)

Now I'm confused, wouldn't ay-ra be Ejra and eye-ra Ajra? :S

But Ejra is pretty much how I say it. Eye-ra would be more like Ajra.

I thought it was the other way around... so ay- is the Northern pronunciation and eye- is the Southern one? Got to remember to keep that straight!I've also always been curious about the Swedish pronunciation.

Ei in Welsh I believe is pn eye so I think it pn eye-rah. But I had 2 welsh people get in a debate about how to pn Eirlys on a board once - eye-liss vs ayre-liss, so I think it depends on where in Wales you live.
