Meaning & History

Means "my father is generous" in Hebrew, derived from the noun אָב ('av) meaning "father" and the verb נָדַב (nadav) "to give willingly" (by implication "to be noble"; also compare Nadab). This was the name of three Old Testament people, including one of King Saul's sons, one of Jesse's sons (thus a brother of King David), and a Levite who housed the Ark of the Covenant for 20 years.
