Derives from the Hebrew word שלש (shalosh), שָׁלַשׁ (shalash), or שלש (shlsh) which means "three, triad, to do a third time". In the Bible, Shilshah is mentioned once, in 1 Chronicles 7:37, as one of the sons of Zophah, who was the son of Helem of Asher. He is thus a member of the tribe of Asher.
