Variant of Morgiana. This name occurs in the French translation of 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves' added to 'One Thousand and One Nights' by Antoine Galland. It is also the title of an opera by Bernhard Scholz and the main protagonist in the comical opera 'Ali Baba' by Charles Lecocq. The figure is also present in many other works (operas, films, tv series, and video games) derived from 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves'. The name has since acquired some usage in France.
