Meaning & History
This name is from a character by J. R. R. Tolkien, present in the book The Fall of Númenor: And Other Tales from the Second Age of Middle-Earth (2022) edited by Brian Sibley. Tar-Amandil is the third king of Númenor, from the line of Blessed Eärendel. The name Tar-Amandil comes from the Quenya words Tar ("high", used in the names of kings), Aman (the Quenya name of the Blessed Realm) and -dil ("friend, lover"). The name has the meaning of "king devoted to the Blessed Realm", or "lover of the Blessed Realm".
