Meaning & History

Means "on the road" or "the one in the streets", derived from Greek ἐν (en) meaning "in, on, at" and ὁδός (hodos) meaning "road, way, journey". This was the name of a Thelassian goddess of roads, apotropaic protection, ghosts, purification, the city, and cemeteries, and was variously associated with or used as an epithet of Hecate, Artemis or Persephone.
