Meaning & History
Perhaps from Bietta, the Romansch form of BEATA. The medieval French woman Biette de Cassinel (c.1340–c.1380) was the chief mistress of King Charles V of France. She is occasionally referred to as Biota. Biette could conceivably be a francization of BETTINA; her Italian great-grandfather was BETTINO Cassinelli.
