Meaning & History

Possibly derived from ḏsr.t-nbtj meaning "the holy one of the Two Ladies", derived from ḏsr "holy, sacred" combined with the feminine suffix t and the dual form of nbt "lady, mistress", referring to the dual goddesses Wadjet and Nekhbet. Alternatively, it could be a truncated form of ḏsr.t-ꜥnḫ-nbtj, adding the element ankh "life, to live" to make "the holy one who lives for the Two Ladies". Djeseretnebti was possibly the wife of pharaoh Sekhemkhet, although her existence is contested, as she is known primarily from clay seals and ivory cloth labels.
