Meaning & History
This name was most notably borne by the Alan princess Burdukhan of Alania (12th century AD), who was the wife of king Giorgi III of Georgia and the mother of queen Tamar the Great of Georgia. The meaning of her name is uncertain. It is likely a compound name, of which the second element possibly consists of the Turkic title khan meaning "ruler, leader". I have no theory for the first element of the name, but it is possibly of Iranian origin, since Alanic is an extinct Eastern Iranian language that descended from Scytho-Sarmatian.
