Perhaps derived from Felisa combined with the Greek noun μένος (menos) meaning "mind" as well as "spirit" and "power, strength, force", or an altered form of Filomena (compare Felisberto). It appears in the pastoral romance Diana (1559) by Jorge de Montemayor.
