From the Chinese character 祝 (zhu) meaning “to pray” and 融 (rong) meaning “to melt” or “brightness”. This is the name of the Chinese god of fire who oversees the south and the season of summer. He is described as a figure with the face of a human and the body of a beast, riding on two dragons. Zhurong is known for his clash with the water god Gonggong, which famously led to the goddess Nüwa patching up the sky. He is also regarded as the ancestor of the Chu people.
