Meaning & History
The name of an Indonesia sea goddess, also known as Queen of the Southern Sea. Her name is derived from the honorific nyai, loro meaning "two", and kidul meaning "south, southern". Folk etymology also links her name to the Old Javanese rara or roro meaning "beautiful", which eventually became lara meaning "ill, heartsick", which was changed through Dutch orthography into loro.
