In German literature, Goldmund is the name of the titular character of the novel Narziß und Goldmund written by the German-Swiss author Hermann Hesse (1877-1962).It can be interpreted a a dithematic Germanic name derived from German gold "gold" combined with Old High German mund "protection". Alternatively, the second part of the name can be interpreted as the common German word Mund "mouth", making the name a loan translation of the Greek name CHRYSOSTOMOS.
