Meaning & History
Meaning unknown, possibly means "hoopoe" in Ingush (referring to a type of bird). In Vainakh mythology, Tusholi was the goddess of spring and fertility, protector of mankind, and daughter of the supreme god DELA. She was revered by the Vainakh people and considered to be the most important deity before the Islamization of the Caucasus. In Ingushetia, a spring festival is held in her honour, and the month of April in the Ingush calendar is named after her.
