Short form of BESARION. It began to be used as an independent name in the 18th century, thanks to the Georgian poet Besarion Gabashvili (1750-1791), who was known as Besik or Besiki. Another notable bearer of this name is the Georgian writer and poet Besik Kharanauli (b. 1939).
