Meaning & History

Likely used as a variant of Makai, Mekhi or Micaiah. It also coincides with the Greek word μάχαι (machai) meaning "fights, battles", the plural form of μάχη (mache); in Greek mythology the Machai were personified as daemons/spirits of battle, sons or daughters of Eris. It has also been used to refer to the 5th-century saint Maccai or Maccaeus, a disciple of Saint Patrick who founded a monastery on the Isle of Bute in Scotland.
