Meaning & History
Derived from hlað ("lace-work, headdress") and gunnr ("battle, fight"). This is the name of a Valkyrie in Norse mythology who only appears in heroic poetry. Hlaðgunnr, also called Svanhvít, is the sister of Hervǫr and the daughter of Hlǫðver. She, Hervǫr and Ǫlrún are swan maidens who can fly with the aid of their swan-shifts.
