Meaning uncertain. It could be a combination of Old Norse drós "woman" and búi "farmer, land-owner". The first element could also be derived from Old Norwegian dros "heavy, plump person". Another theory is that it's the Old Norse name Búi (see Bo 1) combined with a by-name prefix.
