Name created by Klaus Fritz, the German translator of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. As Tom Riddle's full name - Tom Marvolo Riddle - becomes "I am Lord Voldemort" when the letters are exchanged, this little detail had to be retained in the German translation of the books.
