Meaning & History
Means "little mother" in Arabic, being a diminutive of the word أُمّ (ʾumm) "mother; origin, source". Umama bint Abi al-As, also called Umama bint Zaynab (died c. 685 AD), was a granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad. She married twice (once to her sister Fatima's widower, Ali bin Abi Talib) and had one son, also named Muhammad.
