Meaning & History

The first element of this name is derived from the Greek noun σπουδή (spoude) meaning "haste, speed" as well as "earnestness, diligence, zeal". It is ultimately derived from the Greek verb σπεύδω (speudo) meaning "to hasten" as well as "to urge on" and "to set going". Also compare the closely related Greek adjective σπουδαῖος (spoudaios) meaning "in haste, hasty, quick" as well as "earnest, diligent, zealous". The second element of this name is derived from Greek ἀνδρός (andros) meaning "of a man". In other words, this name is basically a variant form of Speusandros.
