Meaning & History

Derived from the Greek adjective ἄντανδρος (antandros) meaning "instead of a man, as a substitute", which consists of Greek ἀντί (anti) meaning "against, opposed, compared to, like" and ἀνδρός (andros) meaning "of a man".

Also compare the Greek name Antenor, which is closely related and essentially means the same.
